Coed y Brenin Forest Centre near Ganllwyd holds regular events for children and all ages at their award-winning visitor centre in the heart of the forest Also nature trails and mountain biking. Search for Coed y Brenin Events online.


Three Peaks Yacht Race
Saturday 11th June

This has to be the most extreme way to complete the three peaks challenge – climbing the highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland. Having started in 1977, 2016 will be the 40th race. Teams leave Barmouth on Saturday at high tide and sail to Caernarfon. Two of the team then run up Snowdon , on returning to Caernarfon, the crew sails to Whitehaven. The runners then leave the boat again for a 40 mile round trip to cycle and run to the top of Scarfell Pike. A final sailing leg takes the team to Fort William where the runners climb Ben Nevis. The race finishes when they return to Fort William, usually on Tuesday sometime. The start from Barmouth is preceded by a procession of the yachts from the harbour to the start line off shore with events, stalls and music on the quayside.


Mawddach Paddlesports Festival
Saturday & Sunday 25th & 26th June

A weekend of boating fun on the estuary and harbour. Come and join in the fun at the Paddlesports festival. There are two days of canoe, kayak and Celtic longboat events in the dramatic setting of the Mawddach estuary and Barmouth harbour. There will be races in various boats, demonstrations, development sessions as well as trade stands and entertainment on the harbourside.


Barmouth Kite Festival
Saturday & Sunday 25th & 26th June

A colourful and spectacular display of kites and other wonderful flying creations. On the beach opposite the Lifeboat Station.


Model Boat Display
Sunday 26th June

Model Boat Display at the boathouse. Liverpool Model Boat club to provide a static display of boats + refreshments.

A very popular weekend festival of Country Music and line dancing in Talbot Square.


RNLI Dog Show
Sunday 17th July

2pm at the boathouse. Classes for large, medium and small dogs. There will even be awards for the dog with the waggiest tail – and for the dog that looks most like its owner!

LifeboatFund raising for the RNLI this annual fun day is a popular event with stalls, tombola, games, a raffle, a BBQ and a chance to meet the crew and see the lifeboat that saves so many lives around Barmouth.

Race The Train at Tywyn

This unique event is a must for all multi - terrain runners. Many competitors return regularly to try and better their performance or just beat that train while others have run nearly every year since the races started. Most serious runners have heard about it either from their friends, TV, or the press so if you haven’t already competed perhaps this year is the time to attempt it.

Helfa Gelf / Arts Trail
Weekends in September

North Wales’ biggest Open Studio Event invites you to visit artists at work in their studios. Now in its tenth year, this free annual event is spread right across North Wales with studios taking part in Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. It is a unique chance for visitors to experience this normally hidden world and get to chat to the artists and crafts people about their creative process.


Heart of Wales Vintage Lorry Rally
Saturday 10th September

Dozens of colourful, wonderfully kept, classic lorries and vintage commercial vehicles arrive in convoy in Barmouth as part of their 240 mile run. They park up on the main car park from 1pm.

Llanbedr Beer Festival
Friday 16th & Saturday 17th September

Always popular, this is a weekend of real ale (including local brews), real live music and really splendid Welsh hospitality, all taking place in the picturesque village of Llanbedr on the banks of the Artro River, approximately seven miles north of Barmouth.


Barmouth Walking Festival
Saturday 17th – Monday 26th September

For ten days in September over 150 people gather in Barmouth to participate in an extensive programme of walks, led by knowledgeable, local guides and ranging from short half day rambles to full day, high level hikes intended for experienced walkers.

The Barmouth Walking Festival programme of over 35 graded walks, provides an excellent opportunity to try little known routes and some of the most popular walks in the area. There are walks for all abilities, led by knowledgeable local guides, ranging from short two hour rambles, to full day, high level hikes, all taking place in some of the finest walking countryside in Wales.



Barnardos 20 Mile Sponsored Walk

A well supported annual event raising thousands of pounds for Barnardos and making a very worthwhile opportunity to enjoy walking in Southern Snowdonia.

Barmouth Motocross Weekend
Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th October

Provisional dates - please check with the organiser before booking accommodation.
Motorcycles and quad bikes race on a specially prepared circuit on Barmouth’s extensive sands. The thrills and spills can be viewed from the safety of the promenade.

Barmouth’s Bonfire and Firework Display Barmouth’s Bonfire and Firework Display takes place on the beach by the Bath House, usually on the Saturday nearest 5th November, depending on the weather. Please check nearer the date for confirmation.


The town’s festive late night shopping event and turning on of the Christmas lights usually takes place on the first Thursday in December.

Fairbourne Miniature Railway also has “Santa Specials” running in December. Booking is essential for this atmospheric train ride & lovely gift from Santa.
